Newman and Baddiel, together again

Relationship thaws at literary party

Rob Newman and David Baddiel have been pictured together for the first time in almost two and a half decades.

The former double-act had an acrimonious split after their groundbreaking Wembley Arena gig in 1993, with Baddiel speaking of how fame made his erstwhile partner ‘a difficult person to work with’.

However, the first signs of a rapprochement appeared earlier this year when the pair exchanged words on Twitter.

Newman subsequently attended Baddiel’s much-praised stand-up show, My Family - Not The Sitcom in the West End and called it ‘heart-warming, wonderful and very, very funny… fully deserving of all its critical acclaim’.

And Baddiel responded that of ‘all the lovely things that have been said [about the show], this one means the most. Thanks Rob.’

Now they have met again in the flesh, as they both attended the summer party thrown by publishers HarperCollins at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London on Wednesday.

Several of the other guests tweeted pictures – including David Walliams, Simon Day and Catherine Mayer.

While talk of any professional reunion might be premature, fans will surely be heartened by the thawing in relations.
