Comic impressionist triumphs at panto awards

Musical impressionist Jess Robinson has an award for being the ‘best mythical creature’.

The comedian and singer scooped the award at the Great British Pantomime Awards last night for her role as Spirit Of The Ring in Aladdin.

She took the role at The Hawth in Crawley, South London, last Christmas. At the time, The Stage said she was ‘a show stealer… she grafts in bits of Katy Perry, Britney Spears, Shirley Bassey and many more and plays the genie role with oodles of attitude. It’s a bravura performance.’

Les Dennis won the award for best ugly sisters wit Connor McIntyre for Cinderella at the Opera House in Manchester. Ben Nickless was named best comic for the same production.

And panto veteran Clive Rowe was named best dame for his traditional role at the Hackney Empire

Aladdin, which starred Elaine C Smith at Glasgow King’s Theatre, was named pantomime of the year for large venues; Beauty and the Beast at Edinburgh King’s Theatre for mid-size venues, and Snow White at Gordon Craig Theatre, Stevenage, for small venues.

The third annual Great British Pantomime Awards were handed out at the New Theatre Wimbledon in a ceremony hosted by Christopher Biggins. Click here for all the winners.
