Josh Widdicombe began his stand-up career in 2008 after working as a journalist and football reporter and became a finalist in So You Think You're Funny? a few months after he started stand-up.

Widdicombe gained prominence through regular appearances on comedy panel shows including Mock the Week, The Last Leg, and Would I Lie to You? In 2012, he won the Foster's Edinburgh Comedy Award for Best Newcomer.

He co-created and starred in the semi-autobiographical BBC Three sitcom Josh, which ran for three series from 2014 to 2017. Since 2014, he has co-hosted the podcast Parenting Hell with Rob Beckett, which has achieved significant commercial success.

In 2019, he married television producer Rose Hanson, with whom he has two children.
