Ben Elton: I'm hoping to do more stand-up

Comic mulls stage return after 13 years

comedyBen Elton says he wants to return to stand-up.

The comic and writer has not performed live for 13 years, but says he ‘hopes to get round to it’.

Speaking to today’s Metro, he said: ‘People still ask me when I’m going to do more stand-up, which is lovely.’

Elton started on the alternative comedy scene and was the Comedy Store’s second compere, after Alexei Sayle, He came to prominence through TV shows such as Saturday Live and the Man From Auntie before concentrating more on writing.

He also told the newspaper that it was ‘exciting that I’ve got a pretty successful sitcom again in Britain’ in the form of Upstart Crow. ‘I didn’t think I’d necessarily get another chance,’ he added.

Elton was speaking to promote his new film Three Summers, set at a music festival over three years, which premiers at the Edinburgh International Film Festival on Sunday.
