Registrations open for 2024 Melbourne comedy festival
Registrations have opened for the 2024 Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
It comes after this year’s event recorded record ticket sales, exceeding pre-pandemic levels.
The 2023 festival boasted 7,418 performances of 639 shows, with 638,100 tickets sold, worth $22.2 million (£11.6million). That represents a rise of 13 per cent above pre-pandemic levels.
It has been estimated that the month-long event contributes $31million (£16million) to the Greater Melbourne economy.
Festival director Susan Provan said: ‘The Comedy Festival continues to prove itself one of Melbourne’s most dynamic cultural assets. Huge audiences come out to support our artists and visitors are prepared to travel from all over Australia and the world to soak up an enormous range of the best in contemporary comedy in our venues. They fill our bars and restaurants while they’re here for one of the city’s busiest months of the year.’
The 2024 Melbourne International Comedy Festival will take place from March 27 to April 21
