Radio 4 pops back to Fags, Mags & Bags

7th series of cornershop comedy commissioned

Radio 4 has commissioned a seventh series of its Scottish-Asian corner-shop comedy sitcom Fags, Mags & Bags.

The new series starts recording in late June, with Greg McHugh, Mina Anwar, Simon Greenall and Sean Biggerstaff confirmed to guest star.

Donald Mcleary and Still Game actor Sanjeev Kohli write and star in the sitcom, which first aired on Radio 4 in 2007.

Kohli said: ‘In a world where the global political landscape shifts on a daily basis, it's important to know that (a) there will always be a place where you can buy a graduation card with an embossed picture of a boy heading a football & (b) Curly Wurlies have maintained integrity of length.’

Susheel Kumar and Omar Raza will reprise their roles as Sanjay’s sons in the new series, while regular cast members Julie Wilson Nimmo, Michael Redmond, Tom Urie, Stewart Cairns, Kate Brailsford and  Steven McNicol all return.

Four new half-hour episodes will air from Monday August 28 in Radio 4’s 11.30am comedy slot.

The producer is Gus Beattie through his new independent company Gusman Productions, with The Comedy Unit’s Rab Christie as executive producer. Beattie won an Audio Production Award last year for his work on the show.
