Tim Shishodia has been crowned 'old comedian of the year' – just five years after being named 'new comedian of the

The accolade comes from the Leicester Square Theatre, which has this year set up the new accolade as an answer to the emphasis on youth in many new act contests.

Dr George Ryegold, the alter-ego of Toby Williams, took the silver, while Sam Savage as Linda Larkin was place third in tonight's final.

The competition was open to comedians aged over 35 who had been performing for at least five years but not making a living from comedy.

Shishodia, who took home £1,000 won the new comedian title run by the same London venue in 2010.

The other finalists were Matt Hollins, Lynn Ruth Miller (who at 81 was the night's oldest performer), Tony Cowards, Jo Ogden, Vahid Jahangard, Tony Dunn, Steve Jameson as Sol Bernstein, and Charles Adrian Gillot as Ms Samantha Mann.
