Watson and Wehn on the road to Rio

World Cup themed travel show

Football-loving comics Mark Watson and Henning Wehn are to front a new travel show in the build-up to next year’s World Cup.

The pair will take a road trip through South America for a six-part series for Dave called Kia’s Road To Rio.

Funding for the series comes from car manufacturer Kia, which just happens to have a model called the Rio.

Filming begins in January and will air before the World Cup starts in Brazil in June.

Emma Read, from programme-makers ITN Productions, said: ‘This is the football fuelled road trip of a lifetime celebrating the unique and extraordinary approach to life and football in South America.’

This is not the first time a car manufacturer has paid for a comedy series. Toyota sponsored Robert Llewellyn’s unusual chat show Car Pool, also for Dave, in 2010; while Ford funded the online series Where are the Joneses?, featuring PhoneShop’s Emma Fryer, three years earlier.

Kia’s Road To Rio will also be broadcast in around 50 other countries.
