C4 reveals casting for new Matt Berry sitcom

A host of guest stars has been unveiled for Matt Berry’s upcoming Channel 4 comedy series Toast Of London.

The six-part series – commissioned after a successful pilot last summer – revolves around a middle-aged actor who spends more time dealing with his problems off stage than performing on it.

Michael Ball, Amanda Donohoe, former Monty Python star Carol Cleveland and Morgana Robinson are among the guest stars.

Also making appearances will be other familiar comedy faces including: Phoneshop’s Emma Fryer, Rufus Jones, Tim Downie from the Royal Bodyguard, Geoff McGivern – the original Ford Prefect from Hithchikers Guide To The Galaxy, Friday Night Dinner’s Tracy-Ann Oberman and Indira Joshi from The Kumars At No 42. Meanwhile, Smack The Pony’s Doon Mackichan stars as Toast’s agent.

Berry, who co-wrote the show with Father Ted’s Arthur Mathews, said: ‘It’s fantastic to have been given the opportunity to develop my pilot into a full blown series and I’ve loved every minute of it!

‘The pilot planted the seeds but now I’ve been able to develop the characters as well as situations that Steven finds himself in - from when he wakes up on a morning to when he goes to the theatre each night to partake in his massively controversial stage play. I really hope Toast of London satisfies and delivers.’

The show is being made by Peep Show makers Objective Productions, and here’s a clip from the pilot:
