RICKY GERVAIS says he wants to host the next Oscars ceremony, as long as producers don’t stifle him. He received some criticism for his jokes at the Golden Globes, but Gervais told GoldDerby.com that he would be up for the Academy Awards: ‘Whatever you think of those sort of things, it would be a thrill and an honour to be asked. On the other hand I doubt the job offer would come without some strings attached. The worst string being, handing in my credentials as a comedian in favour of a family entertainer. We have to be able to poke fun at society without favouring any part of it because we are beholden to someone. It's a fine line between feeling like you've sold your soul and feeling like you're ruining someone's party. It would be very temping though, I must admit.’

THE ACTS have been announced for the next series of BBC Three’s Live At The Electric. New to the series are Lucy Beaumont, Marcel Lucont, Chris Kendall’s Film Fizz, Antonio, Toby, Bubba Duke & Noogie, Loretta Maine and Paul Currie; while returning acts include Wittank, Totally Tom, Two Episodes Of MASH and host Russell Kane.

ENTRIES have opened in the Leicester Square New Comedian Of The Year competition, which has a £1,000 first prize. it’s open for anyone who has been performing for less than five years and is not a professional. More details here

MICKY FLANAGAN is to add a seventh night to his run at London’s O2 Arena this autumn. Tickets for the new October 26 show – plus extra dates in Portsmouth, Brighton, Bournemouth and Liverpool, go on sale from 9am tomorrow.
