Give us a new Clue

I'm Sorry... set to return

I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue is set to return to Radio 4, its producer has said.

However the team are likely to wait another year before resuming recording because they are still mourning chairman Humphrey Lyttelton.

And then there is the question of replacing the irreplaceable Humph, who died in April at the age of 86.

Producer Jon Naismith said: ‘We have decided we want to continue with the show. We enjoy it too much to stop altogether.

‘It won't happen straight away because we're still mourning Humphrey. We had thousands of emails when Humph died saying do please continue.’

The first new shows will have guest presenters, in the style Have I Got News For You, the Independent On Sunday reports, before settling for a full-time choice.

Stephen Fry is reported to be favourite, with Naismith saying: ‘I’m sure Stephen would be good: he's very funny and he's excellent on QI.’

Others being mooted are Angus Deayton, Sue Perkins, Pam Ayres and Sandi Toksvig.

Panellist Barry Cryer added: ‘We all had our favourites, but mine would be a woman because then she couldn't be compared to Humph.’

Regular contestant Jeremy Hardy suggested Pulp singer Jarvis Cocker, like Humph a musician rather than an established presenter.

The show began in 1972, and has run for 50 series.
