Comic wowed judges with Morecambe and Wise theme tune

Susan Calman wowed the Strictly Come Dancing judges tonight by channelling her comedy heroes, Morecambe and Wise.

She and dance partner, Kevin Clifton, performed a quickstep to the beloved duo's theme tune, Bring Me Sunshine.

It was the first song at her wedding, and she said: 'This is the second best day of my life after my wedding day - when I also danced to that!'

Calman's parents, who have never seen her perform, were in the audience for the BBC One show as the pair brought the episode to an end with what the comedian has called 'the happiest song in the world'.

Head judge Shirley Ballas awarded the pair eight out of 10, and  said: 'What a way to close the show! So nostalgic! So light on your feet! Just whizzing and rolling, I was very excited .'

Craig Revel Horwood,  who has not always loved Calman's triumph of personality over technique,  gave her seven out of ten - and said: 'Well, my darling, you totally flew around the floor like a hellish fiend! I could not believe it. I think that is a personal best.'

Darcey Bussell, who also recorded a seven, said: 'It was bright and breezy; it was beautiful, so gorgeous. I wanted to hug you! I loved that routine!

And Bruno Tolioni, giving her eight, gushed: 'Well done! You really are like a box of delights. Every week you have a surprise I was not expecting to see, That tribute to Morecambe and Wise, the way you construct that is genius. But it was a full-on, proper quickstep. You were not messing around. You did it!.'

The score of 30 placed them fifth on the leaderboard.
