He appeared at Montreal's Just For Laughs festival in 1998, and made stand-up appearances on BBC One, Channel 4 and Five before finding success with The Boosh.
The double-act made their debut at the 1998 Edinburgh and Sydney festivals, earning them the Perrier best newcomer award, and returned to Edinburgh in 1999, when they were nominated for the main award, 2000 and 2001. The 2000 show, Autoboosh, won the equivalent Barry award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
The Boosh was picked up by Radio4 in 2001 for a series which won the first and only Douglas Adams Award for Innovative Comedy Writing. The show transferred to BBC Three for two series in 2004 and 2005, giving them a cult success that enabled them to embark on a major nationwide tour in 2006.
As an actor, Barratt has appeared in the Channel 4 adaptation of Zadie Smith's White Teeth, Garth Marenghi's Darkplace and independent films including The Reckoning and Mexicano (both 2002).

Julian is totally awesome. I think that his gorgeousness and talent are quite magnified by the proximity to Noel - in the way that a real diamond shines more when put next to zirconia.
I'm with Rich Fulcher on this one, Julian Barratt brings forth the brains and the brilliance!
This 100w bulbous guy should quite clearly change his name to Julius Beautious, he casts non but light upon the unenlightened and nocturnal animals, ask that randy little ba^&%rd Voodoo Hedgehog if you don't believe me..
Julian Barratt is an incredibly talented comedian, I can't understand quite why he works with the self-centred, egotistical Noel 'ook at me aren't I something else?' Fielding. Perhaps he could try writing something with Julia Davis, that could be interesting.
The big cheese, the cream pipe, the golden glue-stick, call him what you will, but just make sure the word 'Messiah' is inked indelibly on your mind flute when addressing the brilliance that is, Julian Barratt!
Oh I love Julian Barratt. His Howard Moon character makes me laugh so much - the dialogue, body language and facial ticks. I think in one episode he gets called a crispy tube - and what a mesmerising crispy tube he is. Much love, can't take my eyes off him
Julian Barratt is comparable to God
Legend. Say no more.
