Andrew Maxwell

Note: This review is from 2001

Review by Steve Bennett

Maxwell meanders through a myriad of safe subjects that most can relate to... Edinburgh, London, America, Ireland and alcohol with his cheeky way of convincing the audience that he is just there having a laugh alongside them, and when he does engage in a bit of banter it does seem to free him to enjoy the whole thing more.

But he rarely deviates from his set and maintains the image of a wee scamp who cannot be held responsible for any shenanigans.

Maxwell has mastered many accents and uses them to illustrate the colourful and very amusing tales of his seemly eventful life. A very confident and competent stand-up who instantly connects with the audience, but I couldn't help feeling left out of the proceedings, as for the most part it is very bloke orientated, with just maybe a few too many 'poof' jokes.

But you cannot deny that he is extremely good at what he does.
