Such Brave Girls and Juice to return

Second series for Kat Sadler and Mawaan Rizwan's comedies

Mawaan Rizwan’s Juice and Kat Sadler’s Such Brave Girls have both been commissioned for second series.

The news comes ahead of Sunday’s Bafta awards in which Rizwan is up for best male performance in a comedy and Such Brave Girls is up for best scripted comedy.

Jon Petrie, head of comedy at the BBC said: ‘Mawaan and Kat are two of the funniest new voices in British comedy. In Juice and Such Brave Girls they created completely unique shows that made a real impact and were much loved by audiences. It's a no-brainer to have them back for a second time.’

Both shows are made by Various Artists Limited, whose managing director Phil Clarke said: ‘I’m delighted that the BBC is bringing back Juice and Such Brave Girls from sparkling new comedy talents Mawaan and Kat. Both shows are fresh and highly original with something very funny and contemporary to say.’

Rizwan created and starred in the surreal Juice as attention-weekend Jamma, navigating chaotic family dynamics and stumbling through love.

He said: ‘Juice is back baby! I can’t wait to dive back into a magical world with magical people once again. Shoutout to everyone who’s championed this beautiful bonkers show.... and everyone who hated on the bowl cut."

The series co-stars Shahnaz Rizwan as mum Farida; Jeff Mirza as dad Saif; Rizwan’s real-life sibling Nabhaan as brother, Isaac; and Russell Tovey as boyfriend Guy.

Such Brave Girls also stars a pair of real-life siblings – Lizzie Davidson and Kat Sadler, who created the show – as well as Louise Brealey playing their their mum, Deb.

Sadler said: ‘It’s a sick pleasure that these horrible characters get to live another day and I'm now contractually obliged put them through hell again. The BBC are masochists and I’m very grateful.’

Six half-hour episodes of both comedies have been ordered, but no transmission date has yet been confirmed.
