That’s The Show gets its premiere next month

A backstage documentary following comic Carl Hutchinson on tour is to receive its world premiere next month.

That’s The Show promises a ‘raw and honest look at life on the road’ as a working stand-up, described as ‘one of the most joyful and soul-destroying jobs in existence’.

Filmed on tour last year, the hour-long documentary gets its first screening at Tyneside Cinema in Newcastle on May 11, featuring a Q&A with Hutchinson.

It has been made by Motif Pictures, which previously made Life Inside, about the comic’s experiences during lockdown when he was denied the chance to perform.

Hutchinson said: ‘The fact that we get to open the documentary at the Tyneside is really cool. I was just there the other week watching Peppa Pig with my daughter.

‘About ten years ago I actually performed there too, back when I was just starting out. Fast forward ten years I’ve got about six tours under my belt and a very cool documentary to show for it. I really can’t wait to show the people of Newcastle how talented Motif are, they’ve really made something out of absolutely nothing.’

The documentary also features fellow North-East comedians Anth Young and Chris Ramsey

Director Tautvydas Baranauskas said he wanted to capture the ‘rawness’ of a comic’s life, adding: ‘The result is a film that we're all really proud of that isn't just a guy walking on stage and making people laugh but explores different areas of what it is to do what he does for a job.’

Hutchinson is currently on tour with his latest show, Watch Till The End.
