Memoirs of an anaesthetist

Comedian Ed Patrick is to publish his medical memoirs.

Publishers Octopus will be hoping the stand-up’s book, due out on August 26, will emulate the success of Adam Kay’s hugely successful This Is Going Yo Hurt.

Catch Your Breath: The Secret Life Of A Sleepless Anaesthetist is described as a ‘gut-punch of a memoir by a doctor and comedian whose job is to keep people alive after putting them to sleep’.

As well as his live work, Patrick hosts the Comedians' Surgery podcast, while a pilot of his show Infectious Personalities aired as part of Radio 2’s Funny Fortnight last week.

In a statement to trade website The Bookseller, Patrick said: ‘I didn’t expect that being an anaesthetist in a pandemic would leave me outside my front door naked, or indeed that I’d be telling this story to readers. Nevertheless, I am excited to shed more light on this.’

And Romilly Morgan, editorial director of the new imprint Brazen, which will released the book,  added: ‘If James Herriot had been an anaesthetist, he would have written a book a lot like this.’
