Filming wraps on Ghosts series 3

'I can't wait to share what we’ve cooked up for you'

Filming has wrapped on the third series of Ghosts.

The new episodes were commissioned for BBC One at the same time as the second series, which aired last autumn after being recorded just before the first lockdown hit.

Now Laurence Rickard, who plays caveman Robin and the head of executed Tudor nobleman Humphrey, has revealed that the third season is now in the can, too - following a shoot that was complicated by Covid safety measures.

He tweeted last night: ‘And with that, it was done. A wrap on Ghosts series 3. Amidst a sea of masks and swabs and screens, we somehow had an absolute ball. The entire crew were amazing. I cannot wait to share what we’ve cooked up for you.’

Martha Howe-Douglas, who plays Lady Button, revealed that her last scenes were shot on Tuesday.

She posted some pictures from the set, saying: ‘Well that’s me done on Series 3 of #BBCGhosts! A dream of a job. Feeling very grateful to have been able to shoot, and incredibly thankful to our amazing cast and crew who have been wonderful, in not the easiest of circumstances Can’t wait to show you what we’ve been up to!’

The comedy is filmed on location at West Horsley Place in Surrey, the 50-year mansion inherited by  86-year-old broadcaster and author Bamber Gascoigne in 2014 after his grand-aunt died.

It has not yet been announced when the show is likely to return.

Meanwhile, America’s CBS network is working its own remake, with a full series commissioned.

The ensemble behind the British original – Mathew Baynton, Jim Howick, Simon Farnaby, Ben Willbond  as well as Rickard and Howe-Douglas – are all credited as executive producers.
