Channel 4 buys Duncanville

New animation from Amy Poehler and Simpsons writers

Channel 4 has acquired the rights to the new US animated comedy Duncanville, co-created by Amy Poehler.

The Parks and Recreation star teamed up with  Simpsons showrunner Mike Scully and his wife Julie, a writer on the Springfield-set cartoon, to created the show about a ‘spectacularly average’ 15-year old boy and his immediate family.

Poehler voices the lead character and his mum Annie, a parking warden. Ty Burrell – Phil Dunphy in Modern Family – plays dad Jack, a rock-obsessed plumber; Riki Lindhome, from musical comedy duo Garfunkel and Oates, is his teenage sister Kimberley; and Grey’s Anatomy actress Joy Osmanski his younger sister Jing.

Another Parks and Rec alumnus, Rashida Jones, plays a recurring role of Duncan’s crush Mia, while rapper Wiz Khalifa is a teacher called Mr Mitch

The 13-part series is set to premiere on Fox in America on February 16, and Channel 4 says it will air episodes ‘close to the US premiere’ – followed by a repeat on E4.

According to the show’s blurb: ‘Duncan can see adulthood on the horizon: money, freedom, cars, girls…but the reality is more like: always being broke, driving with your mom sitting shotgun and babysitting your little sister. He’s not exceptional, but he has a wild imagination in which he’s never anything less than amazing.’

The series is animated by Bento Box Entertainment, which also animates Bob’s Burgers.
