The voice of Bart writes an episode of The Simpsons

Nancy Cartwright's first script

She has been the voice of Bart Simpson for 30 years, now Nancy Cartwright has written her first script for the  show.

But she hasn’t given herself the starring role – instead the episode, entitled Girl’s In The Band, will be based Lisa’s musical ambitions.

Cartwright told TV Insider: ‘I started playing trumpet when I was 10, when I was Bart’s age. I was in orchestra and switched over to French horn. I was not first chair. But I did have a sense of what I put Lisa through.’

But she said she did take part in speech competitions instead of musical ones, and said: ‘I took that and put it into the music world for Lisa, because it was something that was real for me. For writers, your best stuff is what you can pull from your own life.’

Cartwright also said she’d like to write another episode in future.

Girl’s In The Band will premiere later this month as part of The Simpson’s 30th season.

Two more seasons have already been commissioned which will take the show to 713 episodes.
