Lee Nelson creator arrested

After 'invading' pitch at Everton

Simon Brodkin has been arrested after joining Manchester City players on the pitch of their Premiership match today.

He warmed up with players for around five munutes before their clash with Everton, before he was spotted and escorted off the pitch by security and into the hands of police.

Best known for his Lee Nelson creation, Brodkin was in the guise of footballer Jason Bent, one of the characters in his new BBC Three series.

He was reportedly heard shouting: 'Come on let me play. I've got 50 grand on me to score first' as he was led away.'

An Everton spokesman said: 'A man, believed to be from the London area, has been arrested by Merseyside Police for pitch encroachment.'

His publicist said: 'I think the prankster in him couldn't resist.'

The arrest comes after Brodkin was thrown out of Madame Tussauds for trying to install a home-made waxwork of himself. And in November last year he was apprehended by a police community support officer after staging a spoof shoplifing of his own DVD.
