Fresh Meat: The movie?

Writer reveals plans are afoot...

Fresh Meat is set to be adapted for the big screen, co-creator Sam Bain says.

The writer revealed there were also plans for a film version of Peep Show – the other comedy he created with Jesse Armstrong – but said the university sitcom was likely to hit cinemas first.

Speaking at a film industry event in London this week, he said: ‘I’ve done a lot of TV and I really love it but it’s good to have different challenges.’

‘We have been having chats about a Fresh Meat film and we’re working on a couple of ideas.’

However, as reported by Screen International, he added that it it was difficult to scale up a sitcom to a movie without destroying the ‘essence’ of the TV show

Bain added: ‘The Inbetweeners and In the Loop are good examples of characters going on holiday so that is one option we’re looking at. But we don’t want it to feel like they’ve stopped being the characters from Fresh Meat so it’s a difficult balance to get right.’

A third series of Fresh Meat will air later this year, while there are also plans for a spin-off about female students after they graduate.

Production company Objective said the film was possible, adding: ‘Plans for a movie version of Fresh Meat are under discussion but they’re still at a very early stage.’

But they added that any suggestion of a Peep Show movie is ‘purely speculative’ at this stage.
