Greg Davies goes back to school

New sitcom for Inbetweeners star

Greg Davies is to write and star in his own Channel 4 pilot – as another teacher.

The comic, who played head of sixth form Mr Gilbert in The Inbetweeners, will play a teacher who hates his job in the new sitcom, Man Down.

It is likely to draw on his own experiences as a disillusioned drama teacher, which he previously spoke about in his stand-up show Firing Cheeseballs At A Dog.

Channel 4's comedy commissioning editor Nerys Evans said: ‘Greg is in more ways than one a giant of British comedy.

‘He has managed to write a joyfully funny, laugh-out-loud script. We're thrilled to be working with him on his first solo piece.’

The show will be made by the TV arm of his agent Avalon, whose previous hits include Harry Hill’s TV Burp and Russell Howard’s Good News.

Davies is also due to star opposite Saturday Night Live alumnus Andy Samberg in BBC Three sitcom Cuckoo – and goes back on tour with a show called The Back of My Mum's Head in the autumn.
