French to judge ITV's Superstar

Dawn French is to be on the judging panel on the new ITV talent show to find the next Jesus.

She will join Jason Donovan and Andrew Lloyd Webber for the live Superstar shows, which seek an unknown leading man for the forthcoming arena tour of Jesus Christ Superstar.

The new production also stars Tim Minchin as Judas, Mel C as Mary Magdalene and Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles as King Herold.

Dawn French – aka The Vicar Of Dibley – said: ‘I’m gagging to find Jesus with the help of the Good Lord.  I have actually been searching for him my whole life, and I can’t believe that inside a few weeks we are going to find him.  The fact that he is going to be a Rock God is a massive bonus.’

Donovan has been a judge in the early stages, alongside Mel C. He said: ‘We have unearthed some cracking talent so far.’

Guest performers who are booked for each of the shows – which will be hosted by Amanda Holden –  will also join the judges to give their opinions .

The national tour opens at London's O2 arena on September 21.
