Matt Lucas makes directorial debut

With a music video for The Proclaimers

Matt Lucas has made his debut as a director, thanks to The Proclaimers.

The Little Britain star has shot the music video for the Scottish duo’s new single Spinning Around – and the finished footage was released on the internet today.

The video is set at a golden wedding celebration in a Glasgow bungalow, with the musical brothers dressed up as old ladies – true to Lucas’s penchant for comic cross-dressing.

Proclaimer Charlie Reid said: ‘Matt said it was going to be liberating, and I think liberating is an understatement.’

Lucas added: ‘I had this idea to do this 50th anniversary party and shoot it as though it's shot on home video; and there's a punch going around this party that gets all these respectful senior citizens disgracefully drunk and uninhibited.’

Of the brothers' costumes, he added: ‘They could turn a man. They've turned me straight.’

The Proclaimers’ song can barely be heard beneath the noise of the family get-together, although the pair can be seen in their more usual guise in a TV in the background.

Lucas also has a cameo of a policeman who arrives at the party to tell them to turn the noise down, and eventually shuts it down.

The film also contains a nod to Charlie Chaplin’s ‘bread dancing’ scene from Gold Rush.

The Spinning Around single is available now, while the album it comes from, Like Comedy, is out on Monday.
