Inbetweeners hit America

US remake given the go-ahead

The American remake of The Inbetweeners has been given the green light.

MTV has ordered a 12-part series based on the breakout E4 hit, likely to hit US screens next year.

The station’s programming head David Janollari told Entertainment Weekly that a pilot episode showed they could adapt the original’s humour for an American audience.

‘It’s got an incredibly strong and authentic young voice,’ he said. ‘We were really successful in adapting it for our audience and making it sound like a quintessentially American suburban experience.’

Creators Damon Beesly and Iain Morris will be executive producers on the new show alongside Brad Copeland, who previously worked on Arrested Development and Aaron Kaplan, whose credits include the Owen Wilson movie You, Me and Dupree

The four teenagers at the centre of the show will be played by Bubba Lewis, Joey Pollari, Zack Pearlman and Mark L Young – all relative unknowns.
