Countryside series for Edmondson

Adrian Edmondson is to present a new countryside series for ITV1.

He will front a 12-part series walking through the Yorkshire Dales, meeting local people.

The Dales follows the success of Rory McGrath’s similar show set in the Lake District, which is also returning to ITV1 for a 12-part run.

The Lakes ’ first series earlier this year attracted more than 4million viewers, on average, to the Monday 8pm slot.

ITV1 commissioning editor Diana Howie said: ‘The Dales feels like a natural progression of this popular genre.

Set against the backdrop of beautiful Britain and with the natural warmth and appeal of Adrian Edmondson as our guide, this series will follow a cross-section of residents whose daily lives are defined by the diverse and often challenging landscape of the Yorkshire Dales.'

Earlier this year, Edmondson said he'd had enough of comedy, as his heart hadn't been in it for a decade. He now tours with his folk-rock band The Bad Shepherds
