Book deal for Stewart Lee

Writing about his stand-up

Stewart Lee has signed a book deal to write about his experiences as a stand-up.

How I Escaped My Certain Fate: The Life & Deaths of a Stand-up Comedian will tell the story behind Lee’s three shows from 2004 to 2007: Stand Up Comedian, 90s Comedian and 41st Best Stand-up Comedian.

He signed the deal with publishers Faber, who plan to release the book in August, to coincide with Lee’s next show at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Hannah Griffiths, who bought the book from Lee’s agent Debi Allen, said: ‘We are very proud to bring Stewart Lee to Faber.’

‘He is the most exciting, provocative comedian on the circuit and this book is a perfect reflection of his particular talent. It will be a great antidote to the Christmas celeb-fest.’

The book will also includes notes and commentaries on the material and the techniques he uses to deliver his stand-up.

Lee has previously written a novel, The Perfect Fool, which was released in 2001 and republished in 2008.
