Ice Cube, sitcom star

Are We There Yet? movie spin-off

Ice Cube is to become a sitcom star.

America’s TBS network has ordered a new series based on the rap star’s 2005 movie Are We There Yet?

The film, which grossed more than $82 million at the box office and spawned a 2007 sequel, Are We Done Yet?, was about a smooth operator who drives two children across country to be with their Mum, in the hope of landing a date with her.

Ice will executive produce the new ten-part sitcom with Ali LeRoi, the man behind Everybody Hates Chris. He will have a recurring role in the show, but not as the lead, who will be played by Terry Crews, the Dad from Everybody Hates Chris.

Mort Marcus, co-president of production house Debmar-Mercury said: ‘We knew we had to be in business with Ice Cube, a cultural icon who can do it all: an acclaimed hip-hop artist, film phenomenon, actor, writer, director and producer.’

Are We There Yet? will air in the US next June, and if the first ten episodes prove a hit, TBS has the option for another 90.
