More wine?

Longest-running sitcom recommissioned

The BBC is to make another six episodes of Last Of The Summer Wine, quashing rumours it was set to be axed.

A 31st series of the whimsical comedy, first broadcast in 1973, will go into production this summer for broadcast next year.

The main cast members, including Peter Sallis, Russ Abbot, Frank Thornton, Brian Murphy, June Whitfield and Burt Kwouk, will all return.

Writer Roy Clarke said: ‘It's like going home again.’

And Mark Freeland, head of comedy at the BBC, said: ‘I am pleased that Roy Clarke's much loved and unique comedy is once more returning to BBC One.’
