Conchords could quit TV show
...but they're planning an O2 Arena gig
Flight of the Conchords could be bringing their acclaimed TV series to an end – but not before playing a gig at London’s O2 Arena.Jermaine Clement and Bret McKenzie told music magazine Q that work on the second run of their HBO show is proving difficult, so the next ten episodes could well be the last.
‘The second series seems to me like it would be a good end to the show,’ said McKenzie. ‘I feel like another ten... that will be enough.’
Clement added that they were struggling to create the music for the show: ‘We’ve got a lot of half-songs. We’ve got an album’s worth of beginnings of songs.’
The duo also revealed plays to play the 20,000-capacity former Millennium Dome in January, saying a date had already been pencilled in.
‘I think having a TV show helps fill a big venue,’ Clement said. ‘We have seen how powerful TV can be.’
A performance at O2 would be a triumphant return to the UK, where they were nominated for the Perrier Award at the 2003 Edinburgh Fringe.
Their second series is due to debut in January, if it’s finished in time. ‘We’ve got loads to do,’ McKenzie said, ‘So we’ll see.’
