Shown the D'Or

International award for Gervais

Ricky Gervais is to receive an honorary Rose D'Or Award at this year's prestigious international TV festival in Switzerland.

The award, to be presented at a gala ceremony in Lucerne on April 29, recognises someone who has made an exceptional contribution to the global entertainment business.

Festival boss Georges Luks called Gervais ‘a comedy phenomenon’.

He said: ‘Ricky Gervais is hugely talented, spectacularly successful and seriously funny. ’

Gervais’s Extras is also nominated in the awards’ sitcom category, where it goes head-to-head with the US remake of The Office.

The Catherine Tate Show, The Thick of It and Channel 4's The IT Crowd are also up for accolades..

Last year’s honorary award went to Herb A. Granath, founder of America’s 24-hour sports station ESPN.
