On the Rockies road

Aspen festival line-up revealed

Eddie Izzard, Stewart Lee and Adam Hills are to appear the US Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen next month.

Organisers have announced the final line-up of the five-day event, which is a magnet for American broadcasters seeking new comedy talent.

Deadpan Brit Simon Evans, whimsical Irish comic David O’Doherty, New-York-based Perrier-winner Demetri Martin, and Kiwi nominees Flight Of The Conchords will also be performing in the Rockies resort.

For the first-time, stand-up shows will be recorded at the festival for broadcast on America’s TBS cable network.

Other comics appearing include Janeane Garofalo, Paula Poundstone and Sarah Silverman – and the first om-stage reunion of stoner comics Cheech and Chong in 20 years.

Jim Carrey will be presented with an award from the American Film Institute, and the cast of acclaimed sitcom Arrested Development will stage a live reading of one episode.

The festival, sponsored by the HBO cable channel and now in its 11th year, is aimed at comedy industry insiders, rather than the general public. This year it runs from February 9 to 13.
