Jerry and Superman in web ads

An Internet-only advert starring Jerry Seinfeld and Superman has gone online today.

The comic co-wrote the four-minute American Express 'webisode', which resembles a slimmed-down version of his hit sitcom.

The superhero moans about his sandwich and raves about a Broadway musical, then tries to help Seinfeld install his DVD player while the comic dismisses his ability to reverse time.

The advert, A Uniform Used To Mean Something, was directed by Barry Levinson. The cost has not been revealed, but American Express spends $300million a year advertising in the States alone.

Seinfeld said: "When you read the Superman comic book as a kid you don't think, 'maybe someday he and I'll hang out', but here I am actually doing it."

Seinfeld and Superman last appeared together in a 1998 television commercial for American Express. A follow-up ad is expected in May.
