Spikey in car smash

Comics escape unhurt

Phoenix Nights star Dave Spikey has been involved in a car crash.

The comic, who plays club compere Jerry St Clair, escaped the smash unhurt, but the vehicle was wrecked.

Stand-up Justin Moorhouse was also in the car and he, too, escaped injury.

The crash happened near Grantham, Lincs, yesterday as the pair were driving to the second date on Spikey's national tour.

They had to complete the rest of the journey to Cambridge by taxi - racking up a £120 fare.

Both comics mentioned the incident on stage that night.

Moorhouse said the smash was his fault, as he insisted Spikey stop the car so he could grab a hamburger.

He said that as they were leaving the fast-food joint: "I saw the biggest lorry you have ever seen coming at us."

The lorry collided with the side of the comics' car, leaving them stranded about 65 miles from the gig.
