Mike or break?

Comedy talent hunt returns

Take The Mike is returning for a second series, and is on the look-out for wannabe comics to take part.

The original series of the stand-up talent contest attracted more than 600,000 viewers to ITV1, despite its late night time slot, as well as a degree of criticism from some of those who took part.

Supergirly have been replaced as hosts of the second series, but the name of the new presenter has yet to be announced.

The ultimate winner of all 13 shows is set to receive a management deal with one of the country's top comedy agencies, although the programme-makers cannot yet say which one.

Producer Darren Rose said: "Right now we are looking for comedians from across the country who may be looking for an opportunity like this.

"Each show will consist of a comedy workshop, where they will have the chance to work alongside a top UK comic."

Contestants will then perform in front of a live audience, and their set shown on TV.

Rose has addressed some of the criticisms of the original series on Chortle's forums.

Filming starts in a month's time, and would-be contestants need to apply - by calling 020 7326 7406 - by Friday March 8.
