Lost scenes on new DVD

The BBC is to release a DVD of the Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy TV series with unseen footage and behind-the-scenes footage.

Three episodes of Douglas Adams's 1981 comedy were cut to fill half-hour time slots, and those lost 10 minutes of material is included on the two-disc set, along with other deleted scenes.

The package also includes a Making Of documentary, cast interviews and out-takes, plus a report from Tomorrow's World about how Zaphod Beeblebrox's animatronic second head worked.

Footage from the recording of the hit radio series that spawned the TV show is also included, as well as an audio interview with Adams and a 1982 Pebble Mill interview with animator Rod Lord and director Alan Bell.

BBC Worldwide will be hoping the DVD will prove as popular as he video release of the six-episode comedy, which has sold more than 150,000 copies.

The disc set, which has a total running time of around four and a quarter hours, is released on January 28, priced £24.99.
