New comedy film inspired by Amazon reviews

Starring Richard Gadd and Rachel Stubbings

Richard Gadd has shot a short film based on real-life Amazon reviews, which he hopes to take to the festival circuit.

The Edinburgh Comedy Award winner stars with fellow comic Rachel Stubbings in the anthology, Amazonia.

Comprising three stories, the film takes customer reviews for everyday products and twists them into 'tragic and darkly funny character studies of the people who might have written them'.

Gadd plays a supermarket checkout worker who dreams of being a chef in a story about the mind of a violent predator, which was inspired by praise for a set of kitchen knives

Writer and director Dominic Hicks said: 'We really believe this has the potential to be a subversive, funny British comedy with international reach.'

He has shot the first two stories and is currently seeking £5,000 in crowdfunding to complete the trilogy and enter the film into festivals.

Hicks is also hoping to enlist an A-list comedian to take part in the final story. in which a review of the pros and cons of a SAD lamp shines a light on the emptiness of a successful banker's materialistic lifestyle.

In Part 2, a five-star write-up for a baby name book becomes one woman's desperate search for identity.

Speaking to Scotland On Sunday today, Hicks added: 'The film functions as a satire on how much we invest in and fetishise products, how much we lie online and how easy it is to present a false self these days.

'It's taking something quite bland and turning it into a really personal story.'

Gadd is about to be seen in a breakthrough TV role in the BBC Two drama
