Comic shares mum's acts of mad spontaneity

Mae Martin made their debut as a guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night.

On the CBS programme, the Canadian comedian spoke about the time their mother announced she was getting a Lord Of The Rings tattoo.

Martin said their mum was ‘a very adventurous spirit. And she'll make announcements like "I think we should move to Iceland".

‘I think they feel very real to her in the moment. She'll be like, we need to get a goat

‘A few years ago, she was like, "I have an announcement. I'm gonna get a tattoo" 

‘And we're like, oh, cool. And she said she's gonna get an elven writing from Lord of the Rings, "one ring to rule them all’ around her entire torso.

‘I didn't even know that she  liked Lord of the Rings that much.’

Martin also spoke about how her family were disappointed when they dropped out of school at 15 to become a stand-up… and revealed they undertook a diploma in shiatsu massage as something to fall back on.
