James Campbell – Original Review

Review by Steve Bennett

These days, James Campbell is carving out a niche for himself as possibly the only stand-up comedian for children but he occasionally performs a rare routine for the grown-ups, too.

While the audience itself gives his kids' shows a unique angle, that is exactly what's lacking when he performs for adults. With a relaxed stage manner and reliable material, he holds the room with ease but there's simply not enough substance to make his stand-up stand out.

His new professional life informs some of his material, indeed he admits his best line comes in the 'kids say the funniest things' category, but elsewhere it's workaday stuff about household appliances and the like. Decent enough, but hardly outstanding.
