Joel Dommett on harvesting liquid gold

Comic speaks about his wife's pregnancy ahead of the NTAs

comedyJoel Dommett says he probably won’t be going to the National Television Awards after-party tonight as his wife Hannah Cooper is heavily pregnant.

And he shared details – possibly a bit too much – about how she’s expressing milk for the soon-to-arrive baby.

When the comic appeared on Capital Radio’s breakfast show today, host Ronan Kemp reminded listeners that ‘last time he was on the show, [Dommett] milked his own nipple. Who knows what's gonna happen today…’

The stand-up replied: ‘Well, since the last time I saw you, my wife is now heavily pregnant. So I'm now milking hers...

’It's probably something you don't want to go into in the mornings. But, but there's this thing, this amazing thing called colostrum, which is like a thing that happens to women when they're pregnant. The first milk, they call it liquid gold.

’It’s and it's literally golden. Honestly, I have to collect that in the mornings in a little syringe from the nip. I just say to her every time, "I really want to taste this". It's very nutritious.

‘I do that every morning. I collect it.. .It's my new favourite thing. I love it!’

He explained that he kept the milk in the freezer ready for the baby, adding: ‘I've got syringes in my freezer like a scientist!

’It's really nutritious… Collecting it is called "harvesting". And so I love it because every morning I'm like, Ready to harvest, wife?" And we harvest.

‘I know people say when you have a child, it changes your life. It's already changed my life!’

As for after-show partying, Dommett added: ‘Well, my wife is so heavily pregnant I don't think I'm gonna go. I think I'm gonna have an after party with a sort of a woman that can't move easily… That sounded weird, didn’t it!’

And appearing on the Chris Moyles Show on sister station Radio X, the comedian added that he didn’t want to roast guests at the ceremony like Ricky Gervais, does.

Dommett said: ‘He’s done the Golden Globes in such a way that it’s kind of changed the way that people view award ceremonies and that’s what everyone assumes people are going to do now.

‘When I say I’m going to do the NTA people go, "Ohhh, are you gonna go all Ricky Gervais?", and that is amazing what he does and I think it’s absolutely brilliant but it’s a very different scenario for me.

The National Television Awards will be live on ITV from 8pm to 10.30pm tonight.

Both Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp  and The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X are on air from 6.30am to 10am weekdays and on Global Player.
