Eddie Izzard's spirit of the Fringe!
Eddie Izzard has put her name to a new gin blend to help raise money for the Edinburg Fringe.
A limited run of 2,400 of the Edinburgh Gin bottles will be available to buy from today, priced £35, with all profits going to support for artists who want to perform at the festival.
As well as the usual botanicals, additional ingredients have been added to spell the word Believe, Izzard’s watchword and the name of the 2009 documentary about her life.
They are Bladderwrack Seaweed, Elderflower, Lemon myrtle, Inca berries, Echinacea, Verbena and Elderberries.
Izzard - who has performed at 13 Fringes, starting in 1981 – said: ‘This means a lot to me as I have performed in different languages, acted in a lot of films and run multiple marathons despite many setbacks, but I know anything is possible if you believe.’
The bottle includes a sketch of the comedian gazing out into the distance with a bracelet celebrating the new name she has chosen for herself, Suzy.
This is the second in a series of collaborations between Edinburgh Gin, the Fringe and celebrities, after a Phoebe Waller Bridge special edition was launched in 2021
Karen Crowley, brand director at Edinburgh Gin, said: ‘It has been inspiring to work with Eddie and hear all her wonderful stories during the development of this exciting new gin.’
Last week Izzard announced her bid to fight the seat of Brighton Pavilion for Labour at the next general election.
