Sue Perkins records Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves audio description

‘I got very lucky with this dice-roll'

Sue Perkins has recorded an audio description for the new  blockbuster Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves.

The comic – who is an avid Dungeons & Dragons fan – said: ‘I got very lucky with this dice-roll. Not only is the film itself a joyous romp, but I got to play a part in making sure that experiencing it in the cinema is as inclusive a ride as possible.’

Audio description is a form of narration used to provide information on key visual elements, such as expressions, movements or body language, in film for blind or partially sighted viewers. Cinemas are equipped with a system that delivers this service through a headset, which helps to offer additional information about the film through sound.

Kezia Williams, managing director at distributors eOne Film said: ‘We’re so grateful to Sue for recording this terrific audio description. Dungeons & Dragons celebrates the magic that happens when a group of diverse adventures come together to overcome a whole host of challenges; in the same spirit, we are passionate about ensuring the film is available to all audiences in the most exciting and evocative formats possible’

Sonali Rai of the Royal National Institute of Blind People added: ‘Audio description is a vital part of the cinema experience for people living with sight loss. To have accomplished artists such as Sue Perkins lending voice to audio description will certainly add to that experience.’

Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves stars Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Rege-Jean Page and Hugh Grant will be released s in UK and Irish cinemas on March 31. It will include the audio description option in all available cinemas.
