Resort's fringe fest hands out its award

Character comedian Alice Marshall has won the award for best comedy at this year’s Brighton Fringe.

She performed a week’s run of her new show, Blood at the festival, ahead of its run at the Edinburgh Fringe in August.

After receiving the prize, she tweeted: ‘What in the name of sweet donkey balls just happened... Overwhelmed, overjoyed & incontinent with happiness.’

Also nominated were Viggo Venn for The Life Of Pepito; Nick Revell for The True And Amazing Adventures Of Nick Revell On Planet Earth; Louise Reay for  Hard Mode and Julie Jepson for  Randomonium.

A total of 24 awards were presented at the ceremony, on the final evening of Brighton Fringe.

There is also an ‘IYAF: Best of Brighton Fringe Comedy Award’ for youth arts which was won by Willis & Vere for their show The Starship Osiris.

And The Bobby: Best of the Festival award went to another comedy show,  Enter the Dragons, as performed by A&E Comedy, and described as ‘a frank, funny and fearless look at the subject of female ageing’.

Christopher Green won the Cabaret award for his show Tina C’s President-C, performed in the guise of his country-and-western singer Tina C.

And comedian Richard Todd won a design award for the poster for his show, Sellotape.

Brighton Fringe managing director Julian Caddy said: ’It is always a humbling moment to attend the awards. It brings home all the hard work that goes in to making Brighton Fringe what it is.’
