HBO comedy renewed as season 4 draws to an end

Hacks is to return for a fifth season, charting the attempts of fictional comedy veteran Deborah Vance to dominate late-night TV.

American broadcaster HBO announced that the comedy would be returning to its Max streaming platform ahead of the season four finale going out tomorrow.

The series – available on Sky On Demand and Now in the UK – has garnered 48 Emmy nominations during its run and is one of the US streamer’s top ten shows globally.

Erin Underhill, president of programme-makers Universal TV, said: ‘Like Deborah Vance herself, Hacks only gets bolder, sharper, and more iconic with time. We’re beyond thrilled to keep the laughter rolling.’

Jean Smart plays Vance, who updates her act with the help young writer Ava Daniels (Hannah Einbinder) with the pair having an often   fiery relationship.

The Guardian gave series four of Hacks a five-star review, sating: it ‘should, by rights, be one of the biggest and best-loved shows on TV’ and adding: ‘Even when these two hate each other’s guts – which is most of the time – this truly is one of TV’s best love stories.’
