US Ghosts gets a fourth series

CBS network renews comedy remake

America’s version of Ghosts has been commissioned for a fourth series.

The remake of the BBC comedy is the CBS network’s second-most-watched comedy behind Young Sheldon, with episodes  averaging 10.2 million viewers within seven days of transmission.

Already 45 episodes have been made, surpassing the 34 in the now-ended British original, and the new run will start later this year.

The British creators of the series – Mathew Baynton, Jim Howick, Simon Farnaby, Laurence Rickard, Ben Willbond and Martha Howe-Douglas – are all executive producers on the US version, as well as playing ghosts in the UK programme.

American showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman adapted the show for a US audience, with Rose McIver and Utkarsh Ambudkar playing the young couple who inherit a beautiful, but dilapidated and haunted, country house.

The US Ghosts is available on BBC iPlayer in the UK.

CBS has also ordered a Young Sheldon spinoff –  featuring the characters Georgie (Montana Jordan) and Mandy (Emily Osment) as they raise their young family in Texas – as the original comes to an end.

Thanks for reading. If you find Chortle’s coverage of the comedy scene useful or interesting, please consider supporting us with a monthly or one-off ko-fi donation.
Any money you contribute will directly fund more reviews, interviews and features – the sort of in-depth coverage that is increasingly difficult to fund from ever-squeezed advertising income, but which we think the UK’s vibrant comedy scene deserves.
