Parental Guidance has Shanthi 'putting him in his place'

Romesh Ranganathan is working on an ITV comedy quiz show with his mum Shanthi.

The Weakest Link host is piloting a new show called Parental Guidance in which the fortunes of contestants lie in the hands of those supposed to know them best… their parents.

Producers say: ‘It won’t just be the players’ general knowledge getting scrutinised – keeping a watchful eye and putting Romesh in his place will be his own mum Shanthi.’

A trial episode is being recorded in London next month, with free audience tickets available here.

Shanti has appeared with Romesh in five series of his BBC Two show The Ranganation, as well as the travelogue Asian Provocateur as well as chat shows and panel shows.

Ranganathan previously used Parental Guidance as the title of a Radio 2 sitcom pilot that aired in 2017 – while it’s also the name of Katherine Ryan’s current documentary series  on the W channel.

The comic’s TV ubiquity has become something of a running joke, with the comic himself joking on his current tour Hustle: ‘I walked past the mirror and tried to change the channel’.
