Diane Morgan starts filming series 3 of Mandy

As Paul Ready and Coronation Street legend Beverley Callard join cast

Filming has started on the third series of Diane Morgan’s Mandy with the comedian’s disinterested alter-ego embarking on a new catalogue of short-lived, ill-thought-through and poorly-paid jobs.

New cast joining for the six new episodes include Motherland’s Paul Ready, Coronation Street  legend Beverley Callard, Nathan Foad from Our Flag Means Death and Robbie Gee from Black Ops.

While returning stars include Tom Basden, Mark Silcox, Roger Sloman, Alistair Green, Michael Spicer, Jackie Clune, Yuriko Kotani and Michelle Greenidge as Lola, the title character’s friend, mentor and nail clinician.

In a statement about the new series, which will air on BBC Two, Morgan said: ‘All the quotes used in TV press releases like this are written by ChatGPT now. This one certainly is.

‘When you’re writing and directing and performing in something you can’t waste time thinking of some pointless quote just to show off. No one reads beyond the first words anyway; because they just repetitively say how thrilled and excited everyone is.

‘No one’s reading this now, are they? Only a fool would do that. Come on, there must be a book you could be reading now instead of this nonsense.’

Josh Cole, head of comedy at programme-maker BBC Studios, added: ‘We are thrilled and excited to be returning to Mandy with the peerless Diane Morgan.’

The comedian writes and directs the 15-minute episodes, as well as starring in them.
