ITV orders Alan Carr and Daisy May Cooper game show

Password to be hosted by Stephen Mangan

ITV has picked up a new gameshow featuring Alan Carr and Daisy May Cooper as team captains.

Seven episodes of Password – an adaptation of a US format – have been ordered following a successful pilot earlier this year.

Stephen Mangan will host the series, in which celebrities and members of the public try to  convey mystery words to each other

The new 45-minute  episodes – made by Talkback – will air on ITV1. Katie Rawcliffe, head of entertainment commissioning at ITV, said: ‘Password is a brilliantly fun format greatly complemented by a fabulous on-screen trio in Alan, Daisy and Stephen. 2023 has been a great year for game shows on ITV, and there are plenty more to come in 2024.’

Created by Bob Stewart, the same producer who came up with The Price Is Right, the show first aired on the CBS network from 1961 and has subsequently been revived by rivals ABC and NBC and run to thousands of episodes.

The most recent version aired on NBC last year, hosted by Scream Queens star Keke Palmer and executive produced by Jimmy Fallon, who has featured the game on The Tonight Show.  A second series has been delayed by the Hollywood writers’ strike.
