Sky announces new romcom, Smothered

With Jon Pointing and Danielle Vitalis

Big Boys star Jon Pointing and Famalam’s Danielle Vitalis are to star in a new romcom for Sky Comedy.

Smothered has been created by former Schitt’s Creek writer Monica Heisey, whose comic novel about newly single life, Really Good, Actually, is currently No2 in the Sunday Times bestseller list

Her new show revolves around Sammy, a fiercely independent young woman who is done with dating apps, sick of immature men, and here for a good time, and Tom who is described as a ‘settled man with a warm heart but carries his fair share of baggage’.

They hook up on a drunken night out and agree to have a no-strings-attached affair for three weeks – but on the condition that they never speak again.

The series also stars comic Aisling Bea, Rebecca Lucy Taylor – the singer also known as Self Esteem – Blair Underwood, who starred as Jonathan Rollins in LA Law, Rizzlekick’s Jordan Stephens and EastEnders actress Lisa Hammond.

Heisey said: ‘As a superfan of romantic comedies, it’s been a dream come true to get a crack at one myself, especially with such a talented cast and crew.’

The comedy is being produced by Roughcut TV, whose credits include Stath Lets Flats, People Just Do Nothing and Cuckoo.
